1. Introduction

Fuel Spy is a free, ad-supported fuel price comparison app for the United Kingdom. This privacy policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your choices.

2. Data we collect

Location data

Fuel Spy accesses your device's precise and approximate location to find fuel stations near you. Location data is processed on your device and is not stored on our servers. Location data is also shared with Google AdMob for the purpose of serving relevant advertisements.

Device identifiers

Google AdMob collects your device's advertising identifier to serve and measure advertisements. This identifier may be shared with third-party advertising partners.

On iOS, you will be asked for App Tracking Transparency permission before AdMob can use this identifier. If you decline, the app continues to work normally and AdMob will serve non-personalised, contextual advertisements only.

Firebase Cloud Messaging token

If you set up price alerts, Fuel Spy stores a device token in Google Cloud Firestore to deliver push notifications. This token is not linked to your identity.

Local preferences

Fuel Spy stores your app preferences (such as preferred fuel type and onboarding status) locally on your device using shared preferences. This data never leaves your device.

3. Third-party services

Fuel Spy uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

• Google AdMob — for displaying advertisements
• Google Maps — for map display and navigation
• Google Firebase (Cloud Messaging, Cloud Firestore) — for push notifications and price alert storage
• Postcodes.io — for postcode lookup (no personal data is sent)
• UK Government Fuel Finder API — for fuel price data (no personal data is sent)

4. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Location data and device identifiers are shared with Google AdMob and its advertising partners for the purpose of serving ads, as described above.

5. Data retention

• Location data is not stored persistently.
• Price alert records in Firestore are retained until you delete them within the app.
• Local preferences remain on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data.

6. Children's privacy

Fuel Spy is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Your choices

• You can deny location permission in your device settings. The app will still work with manual postcode search.
• On iOS, you can decline App Tracking Transparency to receive only non-personalised ads.
• You can reset your advertising identifier or opt out of personalised ads in your device settings.
• You can delete your price alerts within the app at any time.

8. Security

All data transmitted by Fuel Spy is encrypted in transit using HTTPS.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
